Skyscraper

Skyscraper                           July 7, 2004

I've grown up from humble beginnings
In a small Tennessee town,
But I've always had these big dreams
Of setting the world a-fire.
Really, the mountains are great,
But they ain't the place for me.
I've set that reach up high
Into the New York skyline.

Wouldn't it be nice to have an office
In a New York skyscraper sometime?
And wouldn't it be nice to be wealthy
Beyond even my wildest dreams?
I'm just a young man, just a student,
A dreamer a-dreamin' large,
Dreaming that my desires will someday
Carry me to a place way up high.

I'm holding de Crevecouer responsible
For my American dream.
I aim to be the best that I can be.
I'm working to leave this place,
This Tennessee rugged mountain life.
I just want to be free.
I just want leave this rusty ol' place
For a New York skyscraper life.
