In Love's Sweet Embrace January 11, 2013
A minuet down by the pond
Would only be so sweet
As the lady in my arms
Locked tightly against my breast.
She consumes my soul,
And I am but amazed by her grace,
Feeling as if but for only one day,
I can maintain my sanity
Because of her love and compassion.
I scan her eyes to read her thoughts,
And I think, "Lo! She is an angel!"
I have never been adequate
At expressing my feelings to anyone,
But somehow, I have managed
To conjure a few brief words
To describe my love for her.
We mustn't get ahead of ourselves,
For waiting makes the heart grow fonder.
Finally, though, I break down,
Feeling a helpless desire to tear loose
And declare to her that yes,
She is the object of my desires and wants,
My confusion for lust when it is but love,
My dearest affinity sent by God
To save me from myself and devilish desperation.
If I had but one day, one moment to live,
Let it be spent until we die in love's sweet embrace.
