Lady of the Lilacs

Lady of the Lilacs        May 2, 2010

O' lady of the lilacs so fair,
I cannot bear living another day without you,
And yet, I must go forward, so wiser people say;
'Tis no other option
Other than to live life one day at a time.
I beg of your presence daily,
And moan your name at every sight.
I digress fully; I must cease this folly, so I am told,
And put my talents to better use.

But what of you, then?
Shall I forget the fair maiden who completes me?
Shall I forsake everything I hold in accompaniment
In order to hold your torch forever and a day?
Shall I find fit to love you less?
Shall I mend the fences when I know
My love for you knows no borders?
The forces surrounding me scream "Yea,"
And yet I defy them.

I think of the time when we first made love,
The sheer work and sweat that were endured,
The passion and pain that were shared,
The kisses that consumed a portion of the soul
For all but a few seconds
Before another commenced forth.
I know of no quarter we should give
This feeling deep within our bosoms
Other than letting our passion for the other
Be our guide.

(An old high school classmate and former English teacher made the comment that this poem reminded her a great deal of famed Romantic Era British poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson.  I found that to be quite odd seeing as how I have never read any of his pieces before; ergo, I must be a savant!)
