Let Him Take You Away (Written during May or June of 2001 in honor of my Great-Uncle Ulysses Grant Henderson, Jr., who lived from 1926-2001)
When I was a boy, a trip to your place
Always brought me great joy
And cracked a smile on my bright-eyed, puppy face.
When you left me, I could not comprehend why... why had you died?
You left this world too soon for me...and therefore I cried,
And so I began my long, personal journey
To a far away land for the answers to my inquiry,
For angels to reply to my prayers.
And so they have spoken, and it is answered
That my uncle had to leave this realm of the living
To ascend His sky....
My uncle, oh thank God, you have found the way to eternal peace,
The path to Shangri-la, the road of Divine Grace,
And whilst you are commuting to His table to drink His wine,
All your pain exits from your body, and you being to live The Enchanted Life.
Oh, how I do miss you; that I cannot help...
But this I do know for certain now:
The Holy Spirit carried you away, and soon,
We will meet again in God's Glorious Kingdom
As angels in the midst of his presence.
Dying is so sad, but I take solace in knowing
That we all all live in eternity in due time.
Because you have left my world, I have been crying.
But now I know, your pain is gone.
Look! His arms are open to you, dear uncle,
Go know His strength; go know His courage.
Reach for the Divine Lights, dear uncle,
Let Him take you away.
Do not stay here for me, for look who awaits you.
It is your childhood anew, and the clamoring with siblings.
It is the love of your parents...
It is the playful nature of your two sons horsing around...
You are now home.
Eternity has warmly embraced you.
Go, go, go be with Him. Do not hesitate for my sake.
This is your time, the time of your life. Your life has now begun.
Let Him take you away.
