An Everyday Hero

An Everyday Hero                       March 22, 2012

Awake at 6 and gray,
Medicine's by your bed.
Gotta face the day;
Can't let it go to your head.
You're so fucking pathetic,
And just another one of the pukes.
You're an everyday hero, sick,
And you must put up your dukes.

You go to work for your money,
Only to lose it upon arrival.
All this insanity,
Yet, nothing else do we recall.
You work for the man,
All that education you can't stand,
But you're nothing if not a granule of sand.
Prepare to pay Uncle Sam.

Yet, you're an everyday hero,
Flying on a wing of a prayer.
One of many of a zero,
Never acting on a whim or a dare.
Yet, you're an everyday hero,
Rich in desire and ambition.
But to Uncle Sam and the man,
You're not better than "So-and-so",
And you continue to feel the alienation.
