The Debt

The Debt                                                June 6, 2006

Darlin' went down, down, down,
She went all over the damn town
Just to seek some guidance, she's so pretty,
Found some folks who'd give her stuff,
And she took it without regret,
But she didn't think twice about the debt.

Darlin' went south, south, south,
She went south, frothing at the mouth
All because she had her "candied bits"
And her heart's faux content.
What she didn't see was the curve
When she made a right instead of a left
And ran off the road as she was racing
From the bad ones awaiting her dues for the debt.

Darlin' wandered across the desert plains
While experiencing thirst and pains.
Withdrawal symptoms and discomforts
Withered her away to a dead flower.
No water of life to revive her now,
No chance, no how will she pay her dues,
Or has she yet?  Depends on who you ask,
For she may have paid her debt with her blood.
