Requiem

Requiem                                                September 27, 2006

He never stood a chance on his own two feet.
The mind feeble, always on the edge of his seat.
He never understood why the rooster crowed
When sun-up come, when it really didn't play nice.
He never knew what made people's lives so rich
When his was a pile left on the cobblestone streets.
He never knew why she shat him out of her womb,
Or why she cried when his spirit died and he never lived.

He never knew why God meant his life to be a requiem,
Or why He made it a tease day in and day out.
He never knew why God dumped pain on him,
Or made him numb to the rest of the world.
He never knew or understood so many things,
Never really knew why God didn't let him die.
He never knew why he had to keep pushing that boulder up the hill,
Or why he, unlike others, never knew of any thrill.
He never knew much, and he was always in the dark,
Always feeling like a failure, a requiem without preface.
