Endless Summer Nights

Endless Summer Nights                            July 5, 2010

Steam rises from the hot stove of pavement
Blurring the visual of the moon and the black night sky.
There are the thirty days of night in Alaska during Winter,
But here in July, the nights never cease,
And o' those endless Summer nights keep drifting away
Like pages off of a calendar into a infinite void.

Scorched earth brings forth the scantily-clad,
And a temporary relief to wearing parkas in the winter.
It is a decent 92 degrees outside six hours from dawn,
And sweat cascades - I am in a daze.
From June 21 to September, the night steams the same,
Those endless Summer nights keep drifting away.

And the ladies in their bikinis by the lit up pool,
Tantalizing they are, make men their fools.
Parties galore, and the night clubs rage,
The youth of America can't disengage,
And from dusk till dawn, hormones are on the attack,
Those endless Summer nights keep drifting away.

Then schools commence on the ides of August,
And thenceforth, the nights become a bust.
I recall looking on with a tear in my eye,
Praying that the heat of the night shall never die.
The calendar is empty, and all is nil,
Those endless Summer nights are wasting now in a landfill.
